\nSheriff Christopher R. Swanson is a career law enforcement professional with over three decades of experience. His multifaceted career has included roles in corrections\, patrol\, narcotics\, criminal investigations\, human trafficking\, and command operations. As the leader of the 5th largest Sheriff&rsquo\;s Office in the State of Michigan\, Sheriff Swanson has worked tirelessly to address complex societal challenges while fostering hope and opportunity. Education has been central to Sheriff Swanson&rsquo\;s philosophy of leadership and change. He holds a Bachelor&rsquo\;s and Master&rsquo\;s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Michigan. He has used this foundation to drive innovative programs that transform lives. In September 2018\, Sheriff Swanson founded the Genesee Human Oppression Strike Team (G.H.O.S.T.)\, a groundbreaking initiative to combat human trafficking. Beyond arrests\, G.H.O.S.T. focuses on restoring dignity and giving victims a voice\, demonstrating the power of compassion in law enforcement. This has now become a standard across America. In May 2020\, during a time of national unrest following the killing of George Floyd\, Sheriff Swanson exemplified leadership by fostering unity. In Flint\, Michigan\, he brought protesters and officers together\, creating a moment of peace and dialogue that resonated worldwide. His actions underscored the value of how every individual and the power of mutual understanding can build a better society. On September 8\, 2020\, recognizing the transformative impact of education\, Sheriff Swanson launched I.G.N.I.T.E. (Inmate Growth Naturally and Intentionally Through Education). Under I.G.N.I.T.E.\, inmates in the Genesee County Jail gain essential skills in math and literacy. I.G.N.I.T.E. has not only helped participants improve academically&mdash\;boosting math skills by 1.5 grades and reading comprehension by 2.5 grades&mdash\;but also prepared hundreds in securing full-time employment upon release. Sheriff Swanson&rsquo\;s vision of creating &ldquo\;better people\, not better inmates&rdquo\; has inspired a national movement. As of this writing\, the I.G.N.I.T.E. model has been adopted in 26% of the States across America. Research from Harvard University\, Brown University\, and the University of Michigan has validated the profound impact I.G.N.I.T.E. has had on individuals and communities. Further\, lead researchers from Brown University have confirmed the study findings showing &ldquo\;the large and persistent positive effects of the I.G.N.I.T.E. program&rdquo\; are slated to be published by the Quarterly Journal of Economics in the Summer of 2025.
