GBTU (Grand Blanc Township University)

FREE 9 week course designed to give residents and local business owners an inside look at how their local government operates. Held Wednesday evenings from 6-8pm. This interactive program offers and behind the scenes experience with each Township Department, helping participants become more informed, engaged, and connected to their community.

Due to the interactive format, space is limited to 20 participants. Priority will be given to GBT residents and business owners aged 18 and older. Participants will be subject to a background check.

Sept 10 – Intro to Local Government

Sept 24 – Clerk’s Office

Go beyond ballots! Discover how local elections are run and all the other important (and surprising) responsibilities of the Clerk’s Department.

Oct 1 – Parks & Recreation

Fun department takeover! Learn all about the GRAND initiative, park facilities, and what goes in to special events—plus, learn about the Senior Center and how you can join at age 50!

Oct 8 – Assessing, Treasury & Finance

Find out where your tax dollars go, how your property is assessed, and how township finances are managed.

Oct 15 – Planning, Building, Code Enforcement, GIS & IT

From new developments to code compliance, mapping, and technology—see the behind-the-scenes work that keeps the township growing and running smoothly.

Oct 22 – DPW & Mechanics

Get a tour of the Department of Public Works and see the impressive equipment they use—including how we build new police cruisers in-house.

Oct 29 – Police Department

Get a behind the scenes look at GBTPD—then watch a real taser demonstration!

Nov 5 – Graduation with the Township Board
